Lieve Victorianen,
The first game of Oktober was played in the comfort of our own Kralingen thuis on a delightful (and beetje abnormaal) sunny day. The fifth match of the season would be a true test against a top ranking opponent: #3 Tilburg. However, we were not alone for this match - for we had added strength from special guests Filippa and Valentine, our courageous minis of the week! The minis accompanied us in every step of our pregame ritual - including the voorbespreking, warm-up and walkout. Thank you minis for your added support!
After a muggy warm up in the high-noon heat, it was time for play to begin! The tenseness of the match was evident by the scoreless first-half. Despite many opportunities to capitalize, we were unable to get on the scoreboard in the first 35 minutes of play. However after re-fueling during halftime with the lekkerest combination of Snelle Jelle en banaan, we were ready to dominate the second half. We started the next half strong with prima ball possession and sherp technique. Finally our good play was rewarded with Frédérique Meeuwsen opening the scoring in the 47th minute of play from a baseline assist from Sabine van Eijck. Meeuwsen’s commanding finish on goal provided a spark to our attack, resulting in yet another goal in the 65th minute of play from Lieke Bas. After receiving a superb pass from midfielder Marente Barentsen, Bas cooly handled a 1v1 against Tilburg's keeper and finished in the back of the net. The outcome of the game would have been a different story had it not been for the impressive play from the corner defense players. Led by goalkeeper Hannah Klunder and super-snel first runner Daphne Voormolen, the corner defense crew shut down every corner attempt made by Tilburg.
The final result - Victoria 2, Tilburg 0! This win keeps us in the #1 spot in our poule for the second week in a row! Frédérique Meeuwsen was named "Woman of the Match" for her game-winning goal - her first (of many soon to come) of the season! Gefeliciteerd, Freek!
We will return to action on next Sunday, Oct. 11, when we play uit against HGC. We once again look forward to seeing you there in support!

Victoria blijft aan kop met 13punten uit 5duels dank zij een knappe 2-0 overwinning op Tilburg. Eelco van Roon (Victoria) meldde na de wedstrijd dat zijn ploeg het tactisch knap had gedaan. ‘Tijdens de eerste helft waren beide ploegen iets teveel bezig met het ontregelen van het spel van de tegenpartij. Na rust vond ik ons iets beter. Het was een echter topper vanmiddag en wij hebben laten zien dat we geen eendagsvlieg zijn in deze poule. We hebben nu al de helft van het aantal punten dat wij vorig seizoen binnenhaalden.’
Tilburg legde volgens Boaz Jansen een goede partij op de mat. ‘Wij hebben laten zien wat we moeten laten zien. Na de 1-0 had ik het gevoel dat wij de 1-1 gingen maken, maar 2fouten in de opbouw hebben ons uiteindelijk genekt.’
